In commenting about the reasons for the award being made to
Medic Air European, Mr Medcraft said: " The Awards Panel were impressed by
the levels of care given to patients by this Ambulance Service."
The entry criteria, looked particularly at how the Service had
provided comprehensive care for Orthopaedic patients travelling from
the Southwest to Hampshire for surgical procedures. This was made in partnership
with the Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust. The project was deemed a total success - especially by the patients
travelling with Medic Air European. One patient commented: "The Ambulance
Crews, in their bright red uniforms, were polite, courteous, cheerful
and made us feel very safe indeed. If I ever need to travel in an ambulance
in the future, I hope it is one of theirs that comes for me." Darren Gibson, Operations Manager for Medic Air European, said staff at the
Plymouth Service were delighted in receiving the award. "Our ambulance crews
undertook advanced training in orthopaedic care before commencing this
project. They all worked very hard to ensure that every patient was given
the highest level of care. To be named as this year's winner is absolutely
fantastic for us and a major boost for all of us."
